Oscar (pictured above) is the Grim Reaper. Srsly. The Grim Reaper uses the persona of Oscar the cat, an unsuspecting hospice care pet. Oscar will curl up next to a nursing home patient just hours before they pass away. Oscar doesn't make mistakes either. In 25 observed cases, Oscar has been so accurate that nursing home officials will now notify family members that their loved one is near death if Oscar curls up next to them.
Dr. David Dosa chronicled this phenomenon in the New England Journal of Medicine. Srsly, I need to subscribe to this journal. First an article on Wiitis, now an expos'e on the Grim Reaper. Dr. Dosa said Oscar appears to take his work seriously and is generally aloof. "This is not a cat that's friendly to people," he said. Thanks for the newsflash doctor - this cat is the Grim Reaper!, people die when it comes to visit! - of course it is not friendly to people!
